• talked to strano today....UPDATED..

well i told him what i had and i wasnt out to autox etc etc etc, i told him i wanted hothckis springs/ bilstein hd's and he told me that that was a bad setup that the bilsteins are not made for lowered vehicles and will die quicker and be a harsher ride, for his revavlved set it is like 150 more, a total of 500! what do you guys think

well talked to him for bout 30 min today and was basically giving me all my options, he said revalved w/ bilsteins would be good, and i really needed a panhard bar, also he said the koni's by themselves would be just as good as the bilstein/hothkis, and he was telling me price diff. this and that so i am n ot sure what i want to do !!!!

He is right, the normal bilstein shocks are for stock spring height only! If there re-valved then they can be set up for a lower car.

Most of the aftermarket springs suck for any handling, they have to low of spring rates. The 98-02 prokit is a good set to work with.

When i do my car im doing re-valves/ strano 35/22 hollow bar. Rod-end PHR. Not sure on the LCA yet, but im keeping stock springs probally.

If your going to do your suspension, do it right the first time or don't even do it at all.

With stock 95 V6 springs, the 22 rear bar ain't right.

He has a 95 Formula Bob, so that shouldn't be as bad of an issue.
As to needing the revalved Bilsteins. It's prolly a good idea to go ahead and get them. They are right, the regular Bilstein HDs are designed for normal ride height. However, I have them on my car with the 98-02 Pro-Kit, with a 32mm/21mm bar setup. The car still rides nice and smooth over bumps and stuff, and still handles nicely. I do get some oversteer but I know, and Bob will tell you that it's because of the 21mm rear bar. Either way, my Bilsteins are almost 2 years old now I think, and I've put about 20K miles on them I think. They're still working fine, but it's prolly a better idea in the long run to go ahead and get the revalved.

I'm lowering the bird 2" and was also planning on the bilsteins. I can't spend $500 on revalved shocks, anyone have ideas or suggestions on different shocks?

Oops. But it's still not the hot setup. See below.

"However, I have them on my car with the 98-02 Pro-Kit, with a 32mm/21mm bar setup. The car still rides nice and smooth over bumps and stuff, and still handles nicely. I do get some oversteer but I know, and Bob will tell you that it's because of the 21mm rear bar"

So why not fix that? A 19 rear will make the car handle even better and it's dirt cheap. The oversteer may feel OK in normal driving, but it's still not the fast setup and can bite you in a tough situation.

I disagree v6bob, the 22 hollow rear has the stiffness of a 21. The stock v8 springs are great for handling with the right shock and a 22 hollow is deffetnially not to much. Strano bars are matched perfect with each other.

Is the 35/22 to much for a stock v6 springs ya deffentially, but not the v8 springs. Im just letting him know what my plans are. If he gets some better match stiffed springs he will also be able to run this setup well.

I agree it's debateable, but two things lead me to believe the 21 or hollow 22 is too much.

Most of the fast autocrossers like a 19 with stock V8 springs. GM tried a 21 on the first few 1LE cars, which were intended for racing, and dropped back to a 19.

Note that silvachris1 gets oversteer with a 21.

Indeed, it's not a large ammount of oversteer unless I purposefully push it. It's just enough to slow you down. And yeah Bob, I plan on getting a 19mm bar eventually. My buddy actually has a 19mm bar with bushings just setting in his garage from when he swapped rears, but he still hasn't brought it to me. It's mine....free....whenever he brings it to me. I'm in no rush because I only autocross every few months and I'm already used to how "twitchy" the rear of the car is.

You got to remember running a 35 front instead of a 32 really makes running a 21 in the rear a great combo. Anything more in the back then a 21 or a 22 hollow would deffentially be to much.

The way the car feels has alot to do with preference. a 35/22 hollow setup is perfect to me.

Maybe you should try it bob, but make srue ya got the springs

It's not that simple for a car with double a-arms/live axle. Because of improved camber control, going from a 32 to a 35 front doesn't change the handling balance much. In contrast, the rear bar has a direct effect on the balance.
