  • Rim Size for 97 Camaro RS

    Whats up Guys and Girls!!!

I am new to the site and I hope that you guys can help me on my questions and comments about the F-Body.

    My question:

I want to put new rims on my 97 Camaro RS and I was wanting to go a little bigger and wider. What is the safest size for the rears and the fronts????

I would really like to go with some 17's and like 9.5's on the front and 10's on the back. But im not sure what the safest sizes would be.

    Thanx!!

Stock is 16 by 7.5 . . . I wouldn't go any bigger than 9 on back that can sport a very wide tire with 8 on the front. your gonna start getting into turning performance in the front if you put to wide a tire on front. but it all depends on the person. height of Rim is up to you along with width. i personaly have found anything over a 18 in height to be performance robbing in my performance apps. It Really just depends on what you are trying to acheive.

Well I would really like to have wider tire that stock. If I put 9's on the back what would be the max width of tire that i could have?????

I've heard of people having 17x8's on the front and 17x10's on the rear. If I went that route what tire size would I need so then I wouldnt have to worry about rubbing or having to change any suspension parts????

17x9.5 is common at all 4 corners with 275/40 rubber. You can squeeze up to 11 wide and 315/35 on the rear depending on offset.

Is that what you are saying you are wanting to do? Still wondering what your preferance is on haveing low profile tires or normal sidewall. . .

The side wall/profile of the tires doesnt bother me.

I just want to know what the best wheel and tire setup I could do. I would like to have the rears wider than the front but I dont want the rears to rub and I dont want to have to make any wheelwell mods.

What would be the sizes of rims and tires that i could use.

Whats the offset and everything that i could use.

honestly go 17 x 9.5 all the way around, which is 275/40/17 tire popular tire can find them cheap, can rotate the tire, that wide sticks like glue on the road, and is plenty wide in back, if still want offset, go 17 x 9.5 up front and 17 x 11 out back 11's ARE SEXY but a lil much on a v6 TOO mcuh traction, or you could go with 18 x 9.5's out back and 17 x 8.5's upfront(corvette style)
