  • How to remove the top nut from the front shock

    if i try to put a socket on the top bolt it just spins. and cause its reccessed into the cup i cant get a open end on it how the hell do i get this.

    impact wrench only...there is no other way IMO.

      they make a tool for it, its a few dollars at any auto parts. i had to use a cutting tourch.... look at my car site, mine was rusted on.

        yeah those things stick.... make sure you compress the springs well otherwise that thing will fly.

            You need to use an open ended wrench and another wrench to hold the actual bolt to keep it from spinning. IMO, if youve got new struts cut it cuz it is a complete pain in the *** and if I had to choose one thing that was the hardest about changing my springs/shocks & struts, it would be getting that nut off.

              I drilled it out... you don't have to... it is a self locking nut... you must hold the shaft with pliers while you use a wrench to turn the nut

                There is a special socket to hold the shaft. Then you use a a 14mm or 15mm ( I can't remember which) open end wrench. Hold the nut and spin the rod.

                If it is rusted like mine was. Cut the shaft. Just make sure you have spring compressors on.

                  if u use an impact, it will pop right off...unless rusted badly. in which case, spray w/ some pb blaster, let it set, then impact it off.
