widest tires on 17's?

I am on the borderline of possibly purchasing a set of 17" ZO6 rims. They're 9.5" wide. Whats the widest tire ya'll would reccomend for our cars? I dont want something that is going to rub. on and BTW, my car is lowered a good 1.5" if that helps at all. thanks in advance for the help.

I wouldn't go anymore than 275-40's.
285's for the rear is pushing it, especially if your car is lowered.

id say 285 40 17's, but 275's are fine, your not going to notice any traction differernce between the two.

You can go 315/40/17 on a 9.5 rim. It'll fit, but I wouldn't recomend it just because those tires are about 30 dollars more a piece than 275, 285, or 295 tires.

315's on a 9.5" rim on a near stock V6 is just dumb in my opinion. 315's are made for a 11" rim.

i had 17x9s all around and my turning radius sucked and my tires would rub in a turn and the rear would sometimes catch the fender when hittin a bump! then the tires wore improperly

Is this supposed to be a blanket statement saying 17x9 wheels do not fit on our cars?

Perhaps you should learn a little more about how wheels, tires, and offsets work. If you buy wheels that are not the correct offset then yes they will rub... if you buy the correct wheels for your car then you will not have any problem with 17x9 wheels rubbing at all.

Maybe your rear dampers were worn out. I'm running 17x9.5 Z06 replica wheels (54mm offset if I remember correctly) with 275/40-17 Nitto NT 555RII (the ones for turning left and right) tires on the camaro and it's had no rubbing issues at all - and that is including a track weekend at Texas World Speedway (2.9 mile roadcourse configuration) along with 2 autocross events. Now with the stock tires and wheels the camaro rubbed the left rear fenderwheel at its first autocross event...with the original dampers installed on the car. Finally installed Koni sport dampers and rear rubbing and most of the rear traction problem under hard braking was solved... [img]smile.gif[/img] The car is still on the stock suspension other than the Koni dampers.
