Decent cheap autocrossing tire(stock size)

I might jump back down to G-stock autocrossing... looking into costs...

I have a local autocrossing family competing with me, and a father and 2 sons putting money into this Integra and all 3 racing it, they are kicking some a$$...

besides figure it woudl be nice to get a decent set of tires on my stockers, if I ever decide to sell the rims or my zr1s.


how are 711s? going cheapest route. I have 712s, they are not too bad, I wouldn't mind terribly going with them, but if I can have something a little better I might go with it? How are yokos ES100s and Sumitomo HTR+s?

i give 711's and 712's a big "I would rather lick ballz then ax on those tires" they are awfull.. wort tire i have ever owned.. hands down..

I would go with es100's if you are looking for something "affordable" I have a set and they are A much better tire then the kumho 711 or 712..

victoracers.. now.. thats a money f-in tre right there.. thats what i had one my 16's last season.. they were yummy..

but guy still has shocks, springs, sways, and hoosiers over me.

I am stock except for zr1s, oddly enough I beat his father and his brother last event but the son is in a 2nd place in the local points race and pretty much kicked my ***...

Question is do I go stock class, and imporve my driving, or do I go full out prepared, and spend like $1k on suspension?

One is chepaer then the other.

I'd stay in stock class and get good street tires and good dampers! My '98 camaro is stock suspension wise except for Koni Sport dampers. I've run both 'race' compound tires (275/40-17 Nitto NT-555RII) and 245/50-16 Yokohama AVS ES-100's at autocrosses and the camaro handles better with the ES-100's. The Nitto NT-555RII definately have more grip but they are too sloppy in transitions for me. Maybe with upgraded suspension (swaybars, control arms) the Nitto's will be better though.

I'd reccomend the Yokohama ES-100's in 245/50-16 size. Don't waste your money with Kumho Ecsta 711 or 712 tires...they are a subpar tire for autocrossing; great tire for everyday driving though!

I haven't looked at the classing in a year ... but ...

You will never be "competitive" in GS on anything other than the AS*** hoosiers or ECSTA V700's whatevers that are true "autocross slicks". Remember that the stock classes still run slicks. It's only the STS / X classes that run true street tires -- anything up to and including Azenis.

But, in your area, you may be able to turn decent times relative to the rest of the GS pack running only street tires. You'll never beat the price of 711's -- they are 1/2 to 1/3 of the cost of other "performance" tires, but that's because they're not, in the end, performance tires, in the sense that the 712's or HTRZ's are.

BUT -- if all you want to do is have cheap fun, stick with the 711's. For cheap, but faster fun, go with 712's, HTRZ's. For fast fun, you'll need autocross slicks, but that all depends.

Sorry forgot to mention I mainly run in a club that is outside SCCA, you cannot run a race style competition tire in "stock" class...

Hrm, sticky non-R compound in stock size. I got my 17x8's specifically because I didn't like the choices there (I race in STX).

I raced on Kumho 712's and Bridgestone Potenza RE950's before the 17's. Both the Falken Azenis and Kumho MX were good for 2 seconds over either of the 16's. I think you're kind of stuck.

No Falken Azenis, no Kumho MX, no BFG KD.. Wish I could help with a good tire, but none is popping to mind.

Well I pretty sure I can run all those those. Its more of cannot use a competition tires like V700 victoracer, hoosiers, etc.

durn , i was just going to tell ya that the midwest f-stock champ was running victoracers... ( i now own his old ones) .. they grab the ground like a mofo (its actually kinda scary taking a 90* turn at 50MPH)
