If you really that concerned about performance, stay with the 16's. 17's will kill your ET.

Go with the treadless tires. Tread is BAD for traction on dry surfaces (I.E. tracks). The less tread there is, the more rubber there is to make contact with the ground. This is why autocross racers use almost bald tires to race on. This is also why slicks are better than drag radials.
Also, 315 is a GREAT width for traction. And, 17" wheels will NOT effect performance unless they are not sized properly. If your speedometer is correct, then your performance is not effected.
A 315 tire with no tread is a FANTASTIC racing tire. Period.

I checked the calculations, and the 315/35-17's are a .1% difference than the stock tire siz. This means that mechanically, the 17" rims have ZERO effect on performance (well, .1% if you are a stickler for the numbers, but this is negligible when you factor in everything that has to do with racing).
I have to say it again to make sure everybody knows- if you size your tires properly (like in this case), 17" rims will have no effect on your ET's.
