  • Disk brake conversion?

Well I hate my rear drums and they need to disapear. But one thing I don't want to loose mainly because I don't drag my car, I want to set it up for autocross, or at least that style if I don't race it.

Will I have to do anything to keep the ABS operating properly? This is a little more than improtant to me. Although I do have a switch that cuts power to my abs lol, sometimes losing it can be a life saver, when things go wrong.

easy way is swap the whole rear to a 3.42 rear if you still have factory 3.23s.

Jsut get a z28 rear get, disc, 3.42, and lsd. Just make sure its a 3 channel rear. Its plug and play.

If you are seriously interested in a braking performance upgrade to 98-02 setup ASAP, its light years better. imo...

Well just found out a friend of mine has a z-28 that he might part out here, his rear axle has 3.73's in it though, and that would destroy my millage..

Now I just read that the 98 - 02 rear ends require more line pressure for the brakes, so they wont brake as hard... Well in either case I looked and cannot find if I need to reprogram for my ABS or calibrate it or w/e I may need to do after the parts. I found the review and instructions on the install but it doesn't say anything about abs working properly or not.

It will and you will have no problems. Just make sure you bleed the hell out of it.

I did it on my 3.4L autocrossed, and roadraced it for months with no problems. Still same brakes(no complaints or notices in difference) on the car 60k later wit the new owner and no issues.

If you really want an Eaton, buy it later. you can pick up a 3 channel 3.42 rear or 3.23 rear whatever you prefer for ~$100, then you can later buy an Eaton, put it in, take out the LSD you have sell it here for $100-150, make a profit or make your money back.

ABS will be fine, the abs sensors work off of wheels sensors, on a 3 channel rear(like all 3.4Ls) there there is one in each front wheel and one that mounts on the top of the differential housing. The sensor reads off of the ABS ring on the differential itself. All the abs does is releave pressure on the brakes.

Getting the ABS computer recalibrated in anyway is going to be pricey never heard of anyone anywhere doing it, even with v8s, that have an aftermarket.

If you switch gears your odometer and speedo will be off but not too much of a problem since you have a 5-speed, so it won't affect shiftpoints, and well most 3.4Ls are usually high mileage so it doesn't matter about the added miles being put on the speedo.

Meh never carred about what my millage read, I'm building this car completely rebuilding it from the new floor complete pans i have waiting up. That is exactly what I would like to set it up towards anyways is autocross, weather it ever gets actually raced or not.

Is the Eaton posi a good unit for our cars, or is there a better one for what I want to do?

And well currently I have a auto, but I will do a conversion to either a 5 or 6spd no matter which way the wind blows me. I do plan on putting at least 3.42s in though.

Thanks for brake info! I was told by a few old timers I might need to get ABS recalibrated, maybe they were worried about new technology again...
