  • Largest Tire Tech:

As I was cleaning out my folders, I found This Tire Chart. Gives you an idea of what options you have with selecting large tires for any Camaro or Firebird.

    Nice info!

They have the 18" tire profiles incorrect for 4th gens though. Should be 275/35 and 295/30.

Ya I find those numbers a little odd.

      The following are for '93-'97

      Factory size on a z-28 is 235/55/16
      That makes a sidewall height of 235 * .55 = 129.25

Factory size on V6 is 215/60/16
      That makes a sidewall height of 215 * .60 = 129.00

      If you used a 245/50/16
      Thats gives you a sidewall of 245 * .5 = 122.50

      With a 255/50/16
      That gives you a sidewall of 255 * .5 = 127.50
Which is much closer to factory height.

If you look at that and math doesn't lie, a 245/50/16 will offset your spedometer a little bit, infact on a A4 auto 95 3.4 when you read 70 you be going 67. I did that math also.

They might be saying use a 245/50/16 because a 255 is a little wide for a 8" rim so I have been told by old tire guys.

GM used 235/55 standard on the V8's and 245/50 was the optional size for the Z speed rated tires. 255/50 was used on the early C4's 16x8.5 wheels but AFAIK never on an Fbody.

Okay well thats probably why, the 245 would give you a noticable stance difference, and the 255 probably is a little wide for the 8" rim and thats why they recomend 245. That much makes sense. Ohh well I was planning on 245/50's anyways they are easier to get!
