• need help with my new tires and rims

i picked up some ZR1s with 275 40 17s in the front and rear. up front are yokohomies and in the rear i have nitto 555r.
now the problem is:
and maybe i am just not used to big tires, but i am all over the road. i feel every single ant that i drive over, and i was told that is normal, but sometimes it feels like it is pulling to the right and then sometimes it feels like it is pulling to the left.

could it be they need to be balanced? i was under the impression that they would have been since they just came off the guys car.
do i need to get an alignment again? i didnt see any "balls" when i was rolling them around.
the tire pressure is fine though i am uncertain what to use. right now i have 35 up front and 40 in the back
anybody have any clues?
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

Personally i would get them rebalanced and then you will make sure they are on right and make sure the air pressure is right.

HaHaHaaaa. Hey guys, we have a new member to our BMF'in tire club. Welcome....When last we left this discussion: I'm gonna replace all of my ball joints, and hopefully that'll take care of some of the ruts I feel when driving. So far, I installeda STB, SFC's, and had the front end aligned about 3 times, but still wander between lanes. Although, when I had the 275-40-17 Kumho 712's installed, the problem wasn't as bad as with cheaper tires.

As I said before, next time you see a groove in the road, put your turn signal on and hope for the best.

My ZR1 set up did the same thing Nino, except I had 17x11's with 315/35/17's on the rear. It would follow cracks in the road more than the stock 16x8 with only 235/55/16's. But it was not bad at all, only a slight wandering effect due to wide tires.

Hopefully nothing is wrong, and your just needing to get used to it. Just to be safe check everything to make sure nothing is busted.

Wide tires, like your 40 series, follow road irregularities more than narrower profile tires. It's one of the main drawbacks of wide tires.

It's not balance, that won't cause that problem.

Poor alignment will usually cause a steady pull, not a wander. But it could make it worse, maybe.

You're running them a little hard, that might be making it worse.

Two different brands of tires might make it worse.

Any worn or loose supension components will make it worse.

This is why low profile tires are generally only stock on serious performance cars. Non-hard core owners won't put up with this.

4 things affect how much a tire will wander. sidewall height, contact patch width, alignment, and type of tire. alignment probably is done, so skip that. less sidewall means the tire will follow cracks and bumps more because it can't flex as much. wider contact patches means ur going over more of the road, making it harder to control. My kumho 255's I had used to wanna wander everywhere untill my left arm got strong enough to just control it except over big cracks where it would jerk me a bit. The type of tire will also affect how much it wanders. many directional tread designs will follow the road more than other types of tread. I'd be glad it's wandering, because then u know it gripping the road well. just get that arm stronger, and u'll be good

Don't forget about Outer Tie Rods. If they are worn, wander will happen bad.
