  • What are your thoughts on these tires.

Ok i've had a set of Sumitomo HTR+s 245/45/ZR17 or something for about a year. And all of them are worn really badly and 2 of them have belts showing through. My vehicle is properly aligned and the tires are properly balanced. It's really disgusting because I paid around $500 bucks for a set of tires that didn't even last a year. So now I just want to replace the rear 2 because of the belts. So I am not looking for a performance tire but a tire that will last a long time. I'm going to be going through tirerack because of where I work I can get a really sweet discount.

The speed rating isn't Z like the tires I have now I think the H is like 128 or something? So it should be a lot better treadwear. I wanted to bump the sidewalls up to 50 or 55 to get rid of the gap in the back but i think I can only buy them in 45.

There isn't too much better tires out there that I saw with a good traction rating. My price is around 130 or so per tire.

    Tell me what you think

What you want to do is look at the treadwear rating on the tire(s). Anything lower than 200 will give you exceptional traction, but wear out extremely fast. Anything between 250-320 is decent traction, and average treadwear. Anything over 400 is like having concrete tires. They will give $hitty traction, but probably last the lifetime of your car ;)

Tell me about it 2000v6bird. I've been on the board for a few years now. about 75% of my posts go unanswered. And to get an idea of how I post if the post counter was still on i'm sure it'd be around 3000. By the time it takes someone to help me out, i've already found some sort of solution though so it's cool.

Ok, well since tirerack didn't post the treadwear rating, I think you should ditch the BFG's, and go for the Kumho 711 or 712's. You'll get a better "Bang For Your Buck", the treadwear is 280 on the 712's, and they are excellent wet-traction tires.

I'm with Blazzin' Joe, Yokohama AVS ES100 IMO is the best for traction and treadwear. It's ranked 4th best overall by consumers like me ;) (TIRERACK survey). I used to have stock Eagle GAs and switched to Kumho 712s then UPGRADED to YOKOs. The difference is literally night and day. The Yokos I've got is 250s but its wider than Kumhos 712s with the same tire width. It costed me 360 bones with all 4 tires, tax included, I think its only 10 bucks more than Kumhos.

I've been really happy with my Yokohama AVS ES100's. I'm running the P245/50ZR16's on my Camaro now. They're rated traction AA, temperature A, with a treadwear rating of 240 or so.
