it has been raining the past few days in kansas and when i go out in the morning, or after school, or whenever the car is cold, the brakes are almost 100% braking when i hit the brake if that makes any sense. there is no moderation in the brake pedal. this only happens the first couple times i hit the brakes, then when i get out on the road they are normal again. i was just wondering if there is a problem with my brakes or something?
97 It is completely normal for the brakes to grab hard after or during rain. I dont know exactly what causes it maybe because the rotors rust and them firt few times you hit the brakes it creates more friction than a "clean" rotor. But all three of my camaros have done it ever since I had them. Nothing to be worried about.
Even street pads require a slight warmup to work; also the first few brakes you make are rubbing off the surface rust which builds up overnight. Its usually not a problem but its often a good idea to make a few quick short stops (gradual ones) to just knock off this rust and warm the pads and rotors slightly. In super cold weather you might even want to run a different compound pad, (say if you were in siberia), but thats a whole nother story.
My car does it too...usually my car will be parked outside of work during rains. When I get back, I have to brake about 4-5 times to get rid of the grab. It grabs HARD...first time before I knew about it, it scared me.
Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
