Tonight I was leaving a parking lot going slowly around a corner and suddenly, the power steering fails. I knew what it was right away, so I stopped to check it out. The check gauges light is on, so I open the door and close it, then the light goes off as the door closes. I check my fluid pretty often, and I know I wasn't near running low. I then move the wheel some, and everything is fine so I go on my way and have no problems. I had the check engine light go on for no reason once before, so I stopped, restarted the engine and it was off, everything was fine. Anyone know what would cause the steering to fail for just a minute. I'll check the fluid tomorrow morning, but I'm thinking it is a computer problem due to the light coming on. any advice?

belt slipping maybe? possibly the belt or tensioner i guess. this would cause a charging problem and make check gauges illuminate. check gauges cant tell anything about the power steering -- just oil pressure, charging voltage, and fuel level.

Yeah, I'm definately thinking it was the belt slipping, that explanation makes the most sense. Haven't had any problems since.
