  • POLY Trans Mount S*CK. Suggestions?

Well i bought a poly trans mount from thunder. Install it yesterday evening. Factory soft mount had ripped almost entirly in half.

Here i am thinking wow upgrade...better feel...better performance.

Start the car up and OMG! This new mount transmits vibration so bad my car sounds like a POS old VW bettle van. It sounds like something is ready to explode down there.

This crap mount is so loud that I am not going to drive it till i fix her tonight.

WARNING to all prospective poly trans mount buyers....be prepared for hella vibration that will make you think you are driving a yunkyard POS.

Tonight i am going to add a softner to the crossmember to hopefully fix the problem.

If that doesn't cure it then out it goes and i will actually put the half destroyed old one back until I can find a less offensive replacement.

Does anyone know who can supply a less rigid trans mount, (other than GM)?

umm..thats what poly trans mounts do. Give it a week to break in, vibration will go away. Same thing happened when I installed mine.
Did you install Prothane or Energy Suspension mount?

      Prothane.....

Your vibration went away after break in.....?

      How bad did yours vibrate??

I was prepared for a bit ... but not what i am getting.

It would be great if the noise and vibration went away it feels so damn tight now...

Mine still vibrates like that, and I've had it for around 2 years. It is definitely NOT for everybody.

No one really follows my suggestion...

1LE, its made fo harder durometer rubber stronger the stock, stiffer then stock, but not as harsh as poly.

I notice a big improvement over stiffness, and no vibrations. Its a factory GM part so its made to not be as rough but still a performance part. Jsut costs a little more. I think I got one for $30-35 shipped.

calm your panties down and give it two weeks... vibration in my car went away completely in a month.

1LE is nice, but i haven't been able to find them. GMpartsdirect never stocks them and neither does SLP, but SLP never stocks anything so what am i saying?

Eric where did you order your 1le from.... SLP?

Unless this vibration thing totally diappears in the next few days I am going to toss the prothane.

I for one can NOT live with the VW bettle sound.

Just give it a little time. The Prothane and the ES(Energy Suspension) mounts are the same and will calm down after a short amount of time.

Thank's for all of the input..... I still think the vibrations i am have are insane enough to make anyone switch... but that could be just me.

I am searching for the 1le as we speak.

I hope that prospective buyers of the poly mount find this thread if they search before buying.

When I first installed the ES mount on my car, I thought that I had done something wrong so I took it back out (this was like 6 years ago). Then, I was doing some more tranny work about a year later and decided to try it again. It still rattled, but I said **** it and it finally calmed down after a few days.

They still have 1le trans mounts.. however the changed the PN and raised the price.. :(

mine was something like $30.. but its nice..

IMO give the poly mount a few weeks.. if you dont like it swap it.. they do take a bit to break in..

if you dont like it I can probably find that PN again.. or you could ask on a v8 board.. or the fbody ax/rr board.. they will have that info..

Seems like everyone agrees that this awful vibration will disappear. I have my ghetto softner so i will install tonight and drive it some more. I am going to take everyone's word on this and give that thing a week to see what happens......
