Looking for some hands on advise here. Throughout the years of working on my own vehicles I have only once changed rotors on a vehicle. (79 powerwagon) That was so bad the brake shop had to take over and eventualy use the cutting torch to get the job done.
I am planning on swapping the front rotors on my 96 and am looking for any first hand advise that is not explained in a chilton manual to make this job as easy as possible. Any Gurus out there that can offer sage advise?
btw, for hex hex key to get caliper off, they sell a socket version, they sell 2 for GM cars, its the larger of the two.
And to be hones what he said pretty much covers, what you need to know.
Only advice I see different that I woudl give and chilton's wouldn't.
You don't have to disconnect the battery before you do this ;)

hex key?? for what?? i just changed mine last week and didnt use no hex key. just take the caliper of and the rotor should come off. i had to use a hammer to get couple of the old ones off, cause they were rusted on there
Won't the hex bolts just take the brake pad holding portion of the caliper off? Aren't there two like 17 mm bolts that take the WHOLE caliper off? I know thats how it is on a lot of cars...haven't had to have these off yet so I dunno....

the older cars have the hex keys, the newer cars use the 17mm, beleive me i know, ive been messing with suspension parts between 94 and 01 firebirds this week.

hehehe I was just gonna ask that question, because I have yet to do my 3.8L but on my 3.4L it was definitely a hex.
