perhaps it could be the rear backing plate for the emergency brake rotor. that's what's wrong with my car right now. GM has a service order for those, maybe this might help you out.

          GM service order: #01-05-23-010 (Sept. 21, 2001).
          It's for 2001-2002 Camaros and 2001-2002 Firebirds

I'm sure with the search button, you can find more info about it.

I KNOW I’m gonna get laughed at for this, but…

When I first got my car (97 RS), I had a “tapping” rattle that I couldn’t find. I thought it was the exhaust or something, but for the life of me, I could never find it.

After several weeks of complaining to my friends, I finally found it.

It ended up being the latch on the back seats. I wrapped the left bar with some medical tape, and no more rattle. Sigh...

I had the same problem when i first bought my bird. Couldnt figure out what it was until i had my car lifted up in the air and the front stabilizer bar link was broken off it rattled like crazy. Replaced it dropped the car down took it for a spin still rattled. Put it back up in the air looked and rear stabilizer link was broken as well fixed it rattle went bye bye might wanna check that out man.

Could be spare tire / jack. Wasn't on mine, but it's worked for others. Tighten it down, or drive around the block without it and see if it still does it.
