  • ABS light?...wasssup?

about six months ago, my son-in-law and I did a plug/ wire job on my 96 bird. Turned out that the terrible engine stutter was a bad coil pack. That's all okay again, but since that minor operation, my "ABS inop" light has been on. I disconnected and reconnected the battery terminal to see if the computer would reset, but to no avail. In reading other posts here on the site, I am made aware that there is one or more ground wires that go to the frame. Could one of these wires have been jarred loose in the plug/wire adventure, and if so, where in blazes are they. I have looked everywhere. I'm kinda like ol' Schultz on Hogan's Heroes, "I know nothing!" when it comes to ABS on an F-body. Anybody got any ideas on what will get that light goin'and how I can get it off without bustin' the dash board. (just a side note, I already checked the third brake light bulbs in the rear of the car...theyr'e okay.)

Inspect the wires as the connect to your speed sensors. You may have knocked one loose during your wire change. Also check your fuses.

I'm going to try the battery terminal cleaning and also will check the wires that connect to the speed sensors....not trying to sound too dumb, but where might I find them under the hood?

drivers side, there is a metripack connector, that is part of the abs system, i know a friend with his lt1 tore a wire on it, so he would have had a ABS light.

not sure if that is your problem, its just something that could be, and its in the general area of where your messing with plugs.

I really do believe that the spark plug/wire job was the culprit as we had to drop the exhaust and get other things out of the way to gain access to a couple of the hard to get to plugs. The light was never on before so something changed between the time we went in and the time we finished. Now another question. If it is a pulled wire, has this in fact disabled the ABS system on the car?

ABS inop = ABS Inoperational so yes, it has disabled the abs on your car.

                      Larry,

Did you ever happen to figure out what caused your problem? I did the exact same thing, changed plugs and wires and now my abs light is on.

Bad or no ground to the ABS assembly.
