• Widest Tires that fit stock rims

Does anyone know what the widest tire that will fit on the stock 16x8 rims. Right now i have the 215's on there and was looking for a little wider tire for better traction. thanks

255/50
I used to have some firestone sz50's in that size on my car they were nice. First day out i was doing 55 in the rain on a very curvy street. the tires didn't break loose once.

Has anyone else used 255 tires on the stock 16x8 rims?

I started out w/ 215 60's on stock 5 star 16 x 8 rims.
I eventually worked my way up to the 255 50's on the stock rims.
I loved them!!!!

Largest = 255/50's fit on the stock 16 x 8 rims.

Here's my synopsis of your tire size choices:

215's: basic stock tire.

235/55/16:
My car came with the 235/55/16's. They look great and have a little bit better handling characteristics. You will defitely see a wider tire and you will feel a difference in curves. This size is the least expensive upgrade and you'll still be better off than 215's.

255/50/16:
I replaced the OEM 235/55/16's at 34,000 miles with 255/50/16's. These are Z rated tires. They ride perfectly stable and smooth at any speed and turns. The handling is definitely noticeably better than the 235's. You can feel the tires following the grooves of a worn road surface - some people like this, some don't.

245/50/16:
Many people have the 245/50/16's also. I did not choose these because the overall diameter of the tire is about 1 inch less than the 215's, 235 or 255's. A lot of people like 245's better than 255's. The 245's will not "bulge" out as much as the 255's - better look in some people's book. As a note, 245/50/16's were what Trans Am's were delivered with when the 4th gen F bodies first debuted.

You can probably save some bucks by going 245's because unless you remove the car's speed limiter, you will never reach the Z speeds anyway. The next tire speed letter down from Z (I forget which) is no slouch - still very good.

245 v 255 - that's been hotly debated before - just make your own call - you'll have plenty of company which ever way you go and I don't think you'll be sorry either way.

I have 245/50/16 Bridgestone potenza RE910's. I replaced my word goodyears with those. U can tell a definite difference. They also follow the road but handle different that my friends formula on 255 Khumo Supras BC of the sidewall design(integration of the wheel lip guard makes it fit with no bulge whatsoever)
