  • Tires? Toyo Proxes 4, or Bfg G-Force?

Just looking for a really good tire, I had my mind set on the Bfg's before but havn't gotten them yet, now I can get a good deal on Toyo's but I don't have any expierience with them, just wanted a few opinions on which one may be a better bet. I do mostly highway and high speed driving, dry and a little rain every now and then. I don't care how smooth my ride is at all, nor do I care about road noise. All I car about is cold hard grip, and great cornering ability, without the annoying feeling that the sidewall is going to break.

    Thanks ahead of time.

I have the toyo proxe 4's and i love them, but mine are on 18's so i dont get the side wall feeling. They handle nice and they don't break loose very easy, but thats just my opinion.

I've been hearing nothing but good things from the V8 crowd about the Goodyear F1 GS-D3's and seems more and more people are getting to like the Fuzion Zri's. Depending on how much money you want to spend, those would be my first choices followed closely by the Kumho 712s.

As to your original question, depending on which bfgs you are looking at, they may be a good tire.

Err.. Let me clarify - the g-froce kdw or the kd.

        I was thinking the KDW..

Here is a list of ones I can get for the following prices..

        Friend manages a shop :)

        Toyo Proxes 4 -245/50/16 $97.38
Goodyear Eagle HP Ultra Plus 255/50/16 $92.36
        Goodyear Eagle GS-C 245/50/16 $89.34
        Yokohama AVS dBS2 245/50/16 $74.36

And of course the Bfg G-Force KDWs in a
255/50/16 I think those were going to run like $95ish

Also just found today a Toyo Z1 or something but they don't show it on their website, supposedly the sug. retail on them is like $242 uninstalled. I can get that in a 255/50/16, going to get the price tomorrow.

I've heard good things about the kdw's all around. While not the best, they are usually very solid (they usually get compared against the GS-D3's, which imho is a apples to oranges). I've never used them personally, but If their reviews are >90% positive, they can't be all bad I guess.

Here is a link to what tirerack says:
            http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...y.jsp?type=UHP

I am a fan of the Kuhmo SPT's, but those prices you listed are a lot less than tirerack, so I don't know what to tell you.

Of the choices you listed. I would probably go with the bfg's.

I've been driving on the BFG G forces for a week now - very smooth - even into the triple digit MPHs.

I hope they wear well - they are really good compared to the Fulda Extremo's I was used to.

dude....get the bfg g-force kdw's.....they are on point. Had them for a year and 3 months and they have been nothing but great. Make sure you rotate them on schedule too, especially on our cars. I got lazy and burned up my right rear alot quick than the rest, but thats my own fault, now i have the posi so the rears wear more even. They have an excellent tread rating, and are rated for well over what our cars will ever see. They hook well on a launch and they are excellent in cornering. I have the 245/50 size as well, i wouldnt get anything less than that size. They are great looking tires too, sidewall and the tread pattern. The tires are made of a real soft compound too, so they dont make a lot of noise and leave a lot of tread on burnouts and such, but if thats what your going for, i wouldnt buy nice tires. I paid 500$ for mine, mounted and balanced.

G-force KDW's are great tires, a friend of mine has a 97 z28 that runs a little faster than an SS with bolt-ons, and he has them on Z06 rims. he grips easily in rain, and barely spins off the line when he floors it.

The BFGoodrich KDW's are really a mediocre tire (not a lot of dry grip, though wet is pretty good).

Yokohama AVS ES-100 in 245/50-16 would be my suggestion against the BFGoodrich KDW's, cost around $100 each... I've run my camaro at Texas World Speedway with 245/50-16 Yokohama ES-100's and they performed nearly identical to 275/40-17 Nitto NT-555RII's; while they didn't have the ultimate dry grip of the Nittos, the transitional response was better along with the ability to hold up to 20 minute sessions and not have the traction go off as much as the Nitto NT-555RII's.

Or if you don't mind stepping down to a 245/45-16 size the Hankook R-S2 Z212 would provide great gobs of grip dry and good wet handling, though it is around $130. To give you an idea of the Hankook R-S2 Z212 performance, my brothers '90 Integra RS shod with 205/50-15 R-S2 Z212's can easily match my Camaro's performance at autocross events (on 275/40-17 Nitto NT-555RII's).

Well, i cant agree that the g-force is a mediocre tire, or agree with putting japanese tires on my car :), howwwever, i have heard good things about the nitto555s, a buddy of mine with an LS1 trans am has those tires and he hooks up nice. I think the nittos are cheaper than the g-forces as well. I have evidence that your yokohamas are pure opinion as well. check this out. My tires got the yoko's beat in every category except ride comfort and noise. For me, those 2 categories dont even go into consideration when choosing tires. All i can say is, the gforces have better handling, dry and wet grip, better tread rating, arnt japanese, and a higher speed rating(haha if you ever go 186mph).
Here is tireracks comparison on the two. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...=0&sortValue=1

well okay theres more to be said but thats a bad *** tire....as for the GS-D3's Ive got em on the V and only reason I got them was because goodyear gave me a warranty on the runcraps that the car originally had I got all four for $300 mounted and balanced...but it's not a bad tire...but It's not something I would buy if I had a choice....the KDW-2 is my first choice maybee the falkens but I dont really plan on tracking this car, and dont think I could live with the treadwear....I'd really look into the KDW-2's you said you dont care if they're noisy so I'd go for it....other than that I know the toyo's are really sticky...al I know.

Just had a set of the G-Force tires put on my car, and they seem to be great thus far.

Noticed a big difference in handling, and the tires are plenty sticky. Don't know about wet performance yet, though I don't drive my car hard in the rain anyway so I'm not sure I'll ever have much to report. :)

I've had two sets of Goodyears (both sucked, I'm pretty much over buying Goodyear tires), and one set of Kumho 712's. The G-Force seems better than all of them.
