ok heres the deal, i have a set of 17" konig rims, i like them but they have a bunch of road rash and scratches. i want to repaint them, they are silver now and im thinking either a gunmetal color or black. i plan on probably getting them sand blasted at a shop since i dont have the time to use handtools to sand them. but my real question is after they are down to the aluminum what is the correct type of paint to use? i was thinking primer first obviously but then what? i know i should use something durable and that will handle decent heat.l should i use a protective enamel? or what and also what about the clearcoatm are there any special chemicals or brands that i should stay away from?

    thanks

a guy i work with used engine enamel for his rims. Im not sure what he did for primer but I know he put about 3 coats of paint then a clear coat over them. They look really good, they are a neon green color.
And so far they are holding up (no peeling or cracking).

if you are going through the trouble of sandblasting, why not go with powdercoating, gunmetal would look awesome!

but if you want to paint use a high heat base coat, i have used fireplace enamel, in light coats, don't try to cover it in one coat, i would do 2 layers of light base, and then 3 to 4 coats of paint. use engine paint with ceramics, but don't ever try to remove without sandblasting again, it ia a PITA top get off, but that would be good for rims, i did this once and they are durable.

also i was told that there is a spray on powder coating that you can do if you have an oven big enough, it is made by brownells
