  • Brake install question

Ok. I put new rotors and pads on today along with doing some other maintenance. The fronts were super easy, but I ran into a snag on the rear.

This is a 97 firebird. The right rear pads won't spread far enough to fit over the rotor (the left rear fit, but it seems like it might be a little tight). It isn't an issue with pad size or the rotors being true. It seems like the parking brake won't let the piston compress all the way back to let the pad/rotor in. Is there something I can do to adjust the parking brake so everything will slide together? I realize the parking brake is self adjustable and haynes says there is a screw to put more slack in it, but I can't get that to work and hayne is super vague. This seems so simple, but I am really stumped.

it shouldnt be that hard, do you have a caliper compressor tool? do you have the brake cap off to remove pressure? <- i have no idea how much that matters, but it might help.

I used a c clamp and yes the cap is off. I really don't get it because the other three wheels are done and it's just sitting on jacks until I figure this out.
