i was argueing with one of my moronic ricer friends who thinks his mx6 that he just paid for is kick @ss and was only like $2000! whatever, but he and i were argueing if springs can wear out? can they?

Really cheap aftermarket springs are the most likely to have this problem.2000 Firebird convert, chameleon/tan, M5, Y87, TCS, BMR tower brace and panhard, KBDD sfcs, 245/50-16 GSCs

Springs should never wear out. The only way springs can wear out is if they were too weak from the beginning, such as the springs on my camaro. I now have z28 springs up front and air shocks helping in the rear.<a href=\"http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245261\" target=\"_blank\">http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245261</a> Green 1997, 105k, all stock except for Z28 front springs, Air shocks in the rear, home made coolant recovery tank, home made battery hold down.

When you flex metal it can bend elastically and spring back. Or it can just bend. Depends on how strong the metal is, how much force you apply, and how good the quality of the metal is. Also how long the process has been going on, metal can fatique over time. If the metal is really good and the design is right (professional quality race springs) it will pretty much never just bend. It would be a real drag if springs changed rate during a race.
But if the metal is cheap it can very slowly start to just bend, and the springs will sag. Even stock springs can do it, if you get really high mileage (150,000? 200,000? depends on how much force they've seen) on them.
Everyone knows that highly stressed valve springs wear over time, and valve springs are tested and often replaced when a "valve job" is done. I had to replace the rear springs on my 96 because I began to bottom-out when there were two or more people in the car. I replaced them with springs from a 2001 SS and they have held the rear up nicely ever since.sigpic
