  • looking for tires in Canada

Hey I have no idea where to post this, I'm not really looking to buy anything from members of this forum, just a link to a store or something. I'm looking for a set of four 245 50 16 tires for my 94 Camaro. My problem is that I live in Canada. It seems like I can find tires cheap off of ebay, but I know that it'll cost a fortune to ship them across the border (shipping and duty). Are there any Canadians out there who know of a good place to buy cheap tires either online or in store? I'd like to spend about $400 Cdn for 4 tires, including shipping and duty and all that other fun stuff. I'd also be interested in a tire and rim package. Thanks!

Check out WalMart & Costco first. Also Crappy Tire has a sale on right now & seems like some decent deals.

It's just frustrating because on ebaymotors i can find 4 really decent tires for $335 USD with either free shipping or no more than 50 bucks. Check it out...

There are many deals like this. We live north of the border so we we're forced to pay double those prices if we want to buy in the country. Does anyone know a ballpark of what duty would run me if I were to buy a set of four tires like this?

Don't know about the duty thing.

I replaced my tires last spring. Bought 4 Goodyear tires from Fountain Tire and that cost me $700 CDN.

Have you looked at some of the "alternative" tire manufactures like General Tire and Cooper Tires.

It drives me nuts too when I see those commercials on American TV channels from places like Pep Boys that sell tires for like 30 bucks each!! They're probably only good for like 30K miles!

Re: looking for tires in Canada

I still can't believe how much cheaper tires are in the US than Canada. It's ridiculous...we should have a parliamentary inquiry into the markup in tires in this country. Anyway, I've looked at a couple of tires on tirerack. I called UPS and they quoted me about 50 bucks brokerage fees and 45 bucks sales tax (I'd have to pay that if I bought them here anyway) in addition to shipping charges. It's still cheaper than getting similar or the same tires in Canada. I might post this in a new thread, but I'm wondering if anyone has heard of Kumho ECSTA AST High Performance All-Season tires. There's no customer review for these tires on tirerack, so if anyone has experience with these tires I would appreciate their opinion. Thanks!
