        Re: stock tire hight

Are you looking for the stock tire size that should have come with your car, or are you looking for the actual measurements of your 235/55/16?

You can visit 1010tires.com and use their tire calculator to determine all the measurements of your tire. Here's what I get when I plug in your tire size:

        Overall diameter: 26.17"
        Sidewall height: 5.08"

                  Re: stock tire hight

                  The formula is:

Take the first number, divide by 25.4 (converts mm to inches)

Take the second number, divide by 100 (converts percentage to fraction).

Multiply them together, gets sidewall height. Multiply by 2 because you have 2 sidewalls.

Add the last number (wheel size).

That gets you 26.2. That's good to within a couple of tenths, because manufacturers don't make the size exact. The way to get the exact size for a new tire is to get the manufacturers specification.

Of course, as a tire wears out it will become about half an inch shorter.

                      Re: stock tire hight

Here's the method. A 3.73 will make your wheels spin faster at a given speed. A shorter tire will do the same thing. You need to use 3.42 and 3.73 to come up with a shorter height. The only reasonable way to do that is:

multiply 26.2 by 3.42 and divide by 3.73.

hmmm i though u had to raise the tire height to make the speedo and shift point to work right never heard of it going down but ill give it a try i did the math and it came out to be 24.02252 so do i change the height 24?

                            Re: stock tire hight

If you can "trick" HP Tuners that way, enter 28.55" as your tire height and see what happens. It might be that programming for 3.73 doesn't exist in the stock cal so, obviously, the Power Programmer can select it. Hopefully, the Power Programmer will support tires that tall.

Please report back to the list on your results. I'd be interested to read them.

Me too. I think you have it backwards. A "shorter" gear like 3.73 acts like a _smaller_ tire.

In both cases the engine has to spin more revs to move the car the same distance.
