  • earthquake when I burn out

I've got a 99 camaro. The suspension is totally stock. I've got some factory y2k c5 rims off some guys corvette, theyre not replicas. Whenever I do a really strong burnout or tap the gas in reverse and break loose my car shakes real bad. Its embarassing. Would some subframe connectors help or some lower control arms? What causes that? The wheels I have on the back are 18x9.5s.

Another problem. whenever I swing the rear end of my car around I get the grinding rubbing noise, like the wheel is grinding against something metal. I've got some spacers on there now but theyre not doing the job I guess. :(

    what do you guys recommend?

I have this problem also and I was told it was bad LCA's (lower control arms)

Never actually got around to fixing it though, so I can't tell you if thats the for sure problem or not.

That "earthquake" action your talking about is called wheel hop and before I got my revalved Bilsteins and Eibach Prokit I had an extreme amount of wheel hop. All of my wheel hop is gone, just rev up to 5k RPM and drop the clutch, nice burnout action. If that doesn't work for you(new shocks and springs), I would get LCA relocation brackets.

It sounds like wheelhop to me as well.

This can be GREATLY reduced with LCAs/Relocation Brackets and a Good torque arm.

You need new shocks...the stock ones are beyond dead which is why the wheels are hopping so violently and the rear wheels/tires rub when turning. Subframe connector will not do a thing for you since the problem is extreme suspension movement related, not chassis reinforcement related. New lower control will not really help out that much if the shocks are what's causing the problem to begin with. Replace the dead and junky stock shocks first with good quality ones before you do ANYTHING else.

i had bad wheel hop and then i replaced my trans mount and torque arm bushing with energy suspension poly urethane ones. that took care of it for me.
