  • How to tell when you're shocks are dead?

I have extreme wheel-hop during any kind of burnout or just a quick green-light getaway.

So far i've heard there are 3 things it could be.

    LCA's
    Shocks
    Tranny mount and bushing

I'm trying to narrow it down....car has just over 80k on the clock.

There is no way you had as much wheel hop as I had before I got my revalved Bilstiens and an Eibach Prokit. After having that installed I can light the tires up good with no wheel hop, just rev up to 5k RPM and drop the clutch.

I heard before that you can push down on the back of the car and if it comes up and stops, your shocks are good, if it comes and goes back down (bounces more than once) they are dead. Jus something I read once, not sure how accurate it is.

if you can take one off the car, push down on it to compresses it. If it comes back out slow, or not at all its bad. it should come back out pretty fast.

There is also like a whining noise coming from the rear when I make a left turn? Does that help any?

I appreciate all the help but I need to make sure what it is before I go replacing stuff.

standing on the rear bumper, get the car bouncing up and down and then jump off. It should recover in about two bounces. Less, than two, your shocks are too stiff and won't move. More than two, they are toast.

Don't wanna sound like a prick, but, Les Schwab, Pepboys, Discount tire, Checker, Middas, Sears, any shock shop has free shock checks. They all check your shocks for free. I have found that if you hit like 3-4 of them in your spare time, ,it only takes abaut 15 min ea . They will tell you if your good or bad. Then you decide what you want to do on your own.

Doing a quick wheel spin when you drop the clutch is a lot safer on the tranny+clutch+rear end+tires than doing an actual burnout. As long as your on an even flat surface when you do a quick wheel spin, your tires losing tread is the only real problem and slight wear on your clutch. As long as you do this in moderation and not 32 times a day your tranny and rear should be fine.
