  • A quick tire replacement question

My 99 came with the optional 235/55/16 but based on the faq I could use 215/60/16 on the stock rims as well. Is that correct? Sorry if this has been asked before.

Re: A quick tire replacement question

Why would you want to go to a smaller tire? 225/60/16's would be better, if you WANT to go smaller, that way your speedo would still be accurate, and all, plus 215's are skinny, I don't think you'd be happy with them if you got them. My friend has a mustang that has 215's and from the back his car looks weak compared to my 245's If you want to go smaller for the price be sure to check around online first www.tirerack.com has some cheap options

Well I'm not to worried about looks or handling at this point. I plan on getting something else in the fall probably. So I don't want to spend a fortune on tires for nothing. But I don't want to run something unsafe either. Maybe the 225's would be better. I'll check around online and see what I can find. Thanks.

For those not interested in ultimate dry weather performance, and who don't mind the appearance, the 215s have some definite advantages.

Better ride, generally longer lasting (because in wider tires, manufacturers go more for performance), better bad weather performance, less "nibbling" over road irregularities, cheaper.

They're not a bad choice for some people.
