  • New rims wont fit!! Need help

I tried to put some C6 18x10.5's in the rear of my Camaro and I got them on and lowered the jack and saw that the car ddnt drop down as far as it should have. At first I thought it was the springs but we realised that it was to wide and the frame was sitting on the tire and thats why it wouldnt go all the way down.I have heard of people using 10.5" wide rims on Camaros so I figured they would fit. So my question is to the people who have 10.5" in the rear, did you have to do anything to get them to fit correctly? If so what do I need to do to get them to fit?

Any and all help is appreciated
    Thanks

I ran 15x10 rims (Welds) with a 10.5" tire in the rear and it was close, but they fit. I'm thinking the backspacing isn't correct on the wheels you bought. Do you know what it is? I've heard of people using a mallet or a hammer to bang the inside of the wheel well to get them to fit. Personally, I wouldn't do that to my car, but you might want to look that up. Otherwise, call the person who sold them to you and ask for a refund so that you can get the correct size for the car which would be 18x9.5. Good luck.

Re: New rims wont fit!! Need help

Im really pissed off about the tire sizes now though:mad: I ordered these online and they told me that the reccomended tire size for my car and with these rims were 245/40/18 for the front and 275/35/18 for the rear, and me not knowing much about tire sizes I just figured she knew what they were talking about and didnt think about it anymore. Now that they are on the car I realised that the front tires are taller than the rear and I hate the way it looks. I looked up some tires and saw that the corvettes use those tire sizes with the 18" 17" combo but I have 18"all around and thats why it dosent look right. I plan on keeping the front tires but i am going to be getting some new tires for the rear.....I want the rear tires to be a little taller than the front any suggestions on what size I should get for the rear? Any way here are the pics

Maro99, what kind of suspension setup do you have up front? The front end is higher than stock on your camaro. My 17" Z06 wheels on stock springs are closer to the wheel arch top than your 18" C6 wheels are.

As far as I know its stock (I bought the car used). Its probably just the tire size that is diffrent, what size tires are you running? I dont like the gap either. I am thinking about getting some lowering springs but I dont know how that will work out because of my body kit it might be to low.

275/40-17 tires all around. Look at the rims of the wheels between my and your camaro, they are exactly the same distance from the wheel arch top (top of rim even with the body line). An 18" wheel rim should be .5" higher than a 17" wheel rim.

Either you have a great eye and are very critical, or it ain't the tires.

The fronts you have are about 1/8 inch taller than the rears. Take the wheels off, put them on top of one another, and see.

The fender gap and attitude of the car are determined by a lot more things than tire size.

Yeah I am extremely critical and your almost exactly right I found out they are 2/10 inch taller but the tires look streched to because they arent wide enough.
I talked to the tire place where I bought them and they told me that if I go with a 295/35/18 that they would be about 5/10 inch taller than my 245/40/18 does that sound about right?

a 295 will be wider then a 245, but a 35 series will have less sidewall height then a 40 series.

I just sold my AR Torq Thrust II rims that were 17 X 11's in the rear with 315 35's and they did rub the fender a lot, but nothing like you explained with the frame hitting the tire.

your rear wheels were probably hitting the bump stops on the axle, which can be easily removed. I have the 17"/18" vette set up on my camaro and went with 255/40ZR17 in front and 285/35ZR18 in rear Goodyear f1 gs-d3 - they look and drive amazing - even costs less than the 245/45 and 275/40 setup on tire rack anyway

245, 265, 275's are plenty for our cars. Anymore is OVERKILL. Our cars don't need the extra rolling resistance and weight. They are slow enough! The obvious advice would be to stay away from oversized wheel/tire combos. Looks ain't everything when they don't even fit under the car. I'd ditch those in a hurry rather than banging out my wheelwells and causing damage trying to force something that isn't correct to begin with. IMO, there isn't enough of a positive side to this dilemma.
