  • tire rubbing on fender... help!

i have a 95 camaro, and when i bought it, it had a set of aftermarket rims that were a little wider than stock and stuck out just a bit from the fenders.. anytime i have 3 or 4 people riding with me, every little bump creates a horrible rubbing noise, and i found out it was the rear right tire rubbing on the fender. just wondering, would it be the shock absorber or the spring that needs to be replaced? or could it be something else?

Probably the spring, but you'd want to replace both springs, not just one ... might as well do shocks too since you'll be under there.

First off, how in the h*ll do you fit 3 or 4 extra people in an F-body??? :)

With that said, your problem isn't the springs/shocks. It's the offset of the wheels. The rubbing will occur whether you have a stiff suspension or not. You'll just rub less frequently when not under load.

The only 100% fix is to get a wheel that is:

      a) less wide
      b) higher offset - i.e. pushing the wheel further inside the wheel well

      Or get narrower tires.

If you want to lessen (might be impossible to completely eliminate without changing offsets and tire sizes) the tire rubbing replace the springs with a set of variable rate cargo coil springs and install a set of heavy duty shocks.

sorry, i meant 3 or 4 people total.. 2 or 3 besides me.. LOL the weird thing is that the right side sits lower then the left by maybe an inch or so, even when there is nobody in it. and when it does rub, its ONLY the right side that does rub.. and its not like these are huge tires.. they are p215/60R15 not sure on the offset though...

if the one side sits lower than the other it is probably your shocks.... and the wheel might have a spacer if they sit that far out so take that out if there is one
