What is that bar under the hood?

Well, i knew once, and i know i will sound stupid for asking... but i was looking through the engine bay pictures, and i see a whole lot of people with the bar connecting the body from side to side, attached to each wheel well under the hood. I don't remember what it's called, and i want to know how cheap i can find one.. It helps handling correct?

Its called a strut bar,

as for what it helps, yes its sopossed to help stiffen things up. some say they dont notice, other say to do notice a little. but for the price of them, you might as well get one.

Many places will have them listed as Strut Tower Braces. And, STBs, for short.

How important is chasis stiffness to you?

Rumor is that sub-frame connectors do a better job of that.
On my convertible, it is a very cheap and effective way to keep the car's handling under control (otherwise the front end feels like it flexes like crazy).

I'm a suspension freak. I've only had this car for a short while and have not had the chance to really dig into it, but every other car I've gone ahead and modified suspension/chasis do a good degree.
