  • rear traction..

So this isn't the first time this has happened, but it seems ridiculous. I was going up a hill and it was just very very lightly raining, the road was just hardly wet because it just started, and i was going about 30mph, still accelerating, and decided to give it more gas to get up to the 45mph speed limit. I push down to probably about half throttle maybe just a tiny bit more, and i feel my back end start sliding sideways and i hear my tires squealing behind me. I immediately let off the gas and got control again.

i just think it's kinda ridiculous i will start to spin at half throttle already going 30mph, so i was wondering what the best suspension mod is that will help me primarily with my rear traction.

I think my shocks are worn, and i plan on replacing those, but i haven't heard they will do a whole lot traction, maybe i am wrong?

    Re: rear traction..

You do realize that the first few minutes of rain is when the roads are the slickest right? ;) Plus you were going up hill in a rear wheel drive car, not a good mix for traction. I dont know of anything that will help you on wet roads other than good directional tread tires.

Probaly help if you put sandbags or something heavy in the trunk area.
You think it's bad now...wait 'till you drive in the snow!

tires will always be the biggest determining factor, then springs, then LCA's, then shocks, then torque arm. Other mods that will affect will be SFC's, PHR, PHR support, rear sway bar, roll cage, and all joints/bushings/mounts.

I have 295 tires and can light them up from a dead stop. my rear suspension consists of 21 rear sway, poly/rubber lca's, rod-ended phr, phr relocation bar, and weld-on lca drop brackets. I'm gonna be adding a spohn torque arm and poly tranny mount once I get some cash. even then, I don't know how much more traction I'll get, but I'll let you know if you want.

Of course, the 21 rear bar _reduces_ rear traction in corners.

You could have the all the suspension mods you can buy, but I doubt they will help you all that much on a slick, wet, uphill road.

So i haven't hung out in the suspension section of this board a whole lot, what exactly is the cheapest parts of the suspension to upgrade? Like i said i plan on getting shocks, then lowering springs, panhard bar and relocation brackets, but what should i start with that is on the cheapest end of suspension?

V6 BOB, with the same width tires front/rear(ie 245-50's, 255-50's, 275-40's, ect) the rear let's go quicker in corners than with stock bars like you said. With wider rears than front, I run 18x9.5 with 275-35 front and 18x10.5 with 295-35 rear, the handling is more balanced due to the wider contact patch in the rear. Also, when driving straight line or launching off the line, it is best to go with a bigger rear bar to combat rear end twist and keep both tires planted off the line for optimum traction.

Well nothings cheap bro but just go to www.umiperformance.com and check out all the things you listed. BTW, you should get aftermarket LCA's before you get LCA relocation brackets ;)

SGS will help from a dead stop, but he was accelerating to 45 mph, he should have been in 2nd gear already if not 3rd even.

You only need lca relocation brackets if you lower your car. Just get LCA's if you are not lowered

umi has some of the best suspension for our fbodies, can't go wrong with any of their products. Prices are really good too. Especially for the lca/panhard combo deal
