  • Is it worth it to only replace struts?

i was going to do strut and spring upgrades, but i only have enough money for a good set of struts... is it not going to be worth it to have new struts paired with stock springs?

you dont need to change your springs unless you are lowering the car. You should almsot never have to change out springs.

Let's start with the FACT that our cars DO NOT have STRUTS!

So what do you really want to do? Replace the shocks? springs?

It's absolutely worth it. Replacing the shocks is a great way to improve handling.

Its deffentially worth just replacing the shocks. Considering most aftermarket springs are junk anyway.

Cheap handling = shocks/front Sway Bar. Done

To avoid having to wade through that thread (it took me a few tries to get it right):

                      http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?...t%20suspension

"In brief, the difference between a shock and a strut is that a shock has pivoting links on both ends, and a strut is fixed at one end. On a MacPherson strut suspension, the bottom end of the strut is fixed to the suspension upright, and the top is attached to a strut tower by a pivoting attachment point. There is a single A-Arm at the bottom of the upright, which attaches to the frame of the car."

The bottom end of a McPherson Strut bolts solidly to the steering upright and serves as an upper a-arm. The bottom end of a shock pivots. There are two a-arms.

                      Nice drawings of the difference:

                      http://www.carbibles.com/suspension_bible.html

Auto parts guys use the term strut incorrectly - all the time. The upper end of our coilover shocks kinda looks like a strut, so they call it that. But it's the lower end that counts and ours looks like (and is) a shock.

93 is the year the 4th gen came out, and the year GM switched from struts to shocks.

                      Man: Five.

Lincoln: No, four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one.

Lol, i read that and though "oh cool". So then i go up to a co-worker and ask:

Me: "If you call a tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have?"

Her: "(thinks about it for a while) ..... (still thinking) ... One!"

                            Me:
