It's absolutely worth it. Replacing the shocks is a great way to improve handling.2000 Firebird convert, chameleon/tan, M5, Y87, TCS, BMR tower brace and panhard, KBDD sfcs, 245/50-16 GSCs

Re: Is it worth it to only replace struts?
Its deffentially worth just replacing the shocks. Considering most aftermarket springs are junk anyway.
Cheap handling = shocks/front Sway Bar. Done1999 Pontiac Trans Am M6 Far from stock.....

Re: Is it worth it to only replace struts?
To avoid having to wade through that thread (it took me a few tries to get it right):
http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?...t%20suspension
"In brief, the difference between a shock and a strut is that a shock has pivoting links on both ends, and a strut is fixed at one end. On a MacPherson strut suspension, the bottom end of the strut is fixed to the suspension upright, and the top is attached to a strut tower by a pivoting attachment point. There is a single A-Arm at the bottom of the upright, which attaches to the frame of the car."
The bottom end of a McPherson Strut bolts solidly to the steering upright and serves as an upper a-arm. The bottom end of a shock pivots. There are two a-arms.
Nice drawings of the difference:

Auto parts guys use the term strut incorrectly - all the time. The upper end of our coilover shocks kinda looks like a strut, so they call it that. But it's the lower end that counts and ours looks like (and is) a shock.
93 is the year the 4th gen came out, and the year GM switched from struts to shocks.
