  • What Shocks?

Sorry, I'm a newb at the whole suspension thing and I tried a search but I still have questions. I recently installed 17X9 rims and I'm running 4 BFGoodrich Gforce 275/40/R17s. My ride quality has completely gone away. It handles better but the body role is horrid. I have horrible wheel hop over bumps. I feel it is a sign of worn suspension. The car goes for inspection in a month and I was wondering what shocks and springs do you recommend? Are these SS shocks a good idea:http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=70002?
Also, how much will it lower my ride height, because my car stands really high with the 17s. Sorry for the dumb questions, but I really am clueless when it comes to suspension. BTW I have 2000 Camaro with 68,XXX miles on it. I think it's still on the original suspension.

No, that is for a V8. Spring ride height is wrong for a V6.

my ride has the same size tires, but also has eibachs & kyb agx adjustables ( w/other goodies). Don't forget about the rear bumpstop spacers. Ride quality is very adjustable, & very different, even w/the change of just 2 clicks w/them.

The following is not meant to put you down. It's honest advice.

Suspension is tricky. If you lower the car, you alter the suspension geometry in a bad way. You can fix that with..... But then you might need....

And there's a whole lot of bad advice on suspension mods on the Net, because... suspension is tricky.

My honest best advice is that you try simply replacing the shocks with really good ones, like Bilstein HDs. It will dramatically improve both the handling and the ride quality, because at 67K your shocks are toast.

If you truly think there's more to be gained after that, so be it. But doing a bunch of stuff "because I'm there" can do more harm than good. Your questions are _not_ dumb. But throwing a lot of stuff at the car without knowledge can be. You're trusting a lot to strangers on the net who may know just enough more than you to be dangerous. You need to personally know enough (and it's a lot) to sort out bad information from good.

lol I have a 2k with 68k kind of wierd.

Either way my suspension was ****ty, I threw on a set of bilsteins and the car feels lightyears better. bad shocks can really screw up your car.

This is why all I did was replace my shocks with HDs. I personally feel for street use it's about as good as it gets in an Fbody. For one thing, I can go over speedbumps now without fearing them :)

              Re: What Shocks?

Ive had my 4 new Bilsteins for over a month now and havent put them on yet. I know Im getting a set of Eibach springs for Christmas so Ive decided to wait and put them on at the same time. While Im thinking about it...does anyone know the part# for the rubber coil spring insulators for the front and/or rear? Ive heard that they are bad for ripping in half when pulling out the springs...and if this is so, I better go ahead and order some new ones now.
