So the past few days it has been really cold and the powersteering(pump?) is making a horrible whine, especially when I turn the wheel. It is fine after I drive for a while and the car warms up. So is this usually normal(first p/s car) in really cold weather, or does this mean the p/s is going bad or the fluid needs change? Thanks
its gonna whine like crazy when its cold...and as u said it goes away when it warms up...u think the fluid is gonna wanna move right when u first start ur car up and its 5 degrees out? i sure know mine doenst wanna lol

When the power steering pump has some wear in it, it will make some whining noise when cold. You can lessen the amount of noise my changing to a synthetic power steering fluid. It will not get rid of the noise completely, but it does lessen it. At least that is what worked with my car. If you think your's is noisy, you should here mine at -30F!! It doesn't whine. It SCREAMS for the first 30 seconds!

My mom had a van made from that other domestic manufacturer :spank: The one where you have to Fix Or Replace Daily. I could hear her coming a block away (all the time) cause she had so much metal desbris in her rack. (not that rack stupid) Eventually I think it cut a hole in a gasket or hose, cause I would always have to refill it. Be glad it only screams at cold start :)

Yup! Most of the noisiest pumps I've heard were Fords!
