question on wheel sizes

  • question on wheel sizes

    ok i was looking at new wheels for my 2000 v6. i saw some good looking 17'' but the tire size is 275. the ones i have on there now are 245 how much would the wheel stick out of the body?

    i have 17's and i run with 235's

      the differance is about an inch... so a half inch on each side, probably couldnt even notice it

        I run 275 tires on my car. They stick out a little, but not that much. I actually think it looks cool.

            uh... 275, 235, thats refering to the WIDTH of the tire, not the diameter... so 275s in relation to a 17" wheel makes no sense as its the width of the wheel thats the defining detail here. So how wide are said wheels? The stockers are 8" which will take 245s just fine. A lot of 'vette wheels and the TT2s are 9.5" wide and most people have 275s all the way up to 295s (i think i've heard). GM brand SS wheels (for the 98up model SS) are 9" wide and would probably be fine with 275s as well.

            Kristen, 235s sound reeeally narrow.. your wheels are 17X9.5" right?

            [EDIT]Not to mention that the backspacing on the wheel will have a larger effect as to how far they "stick out".
