what does staggered mean? would it make the car look jacked up in the back?

also, my car comes with 16" wheels, could I put 17's on the back with p285/r40 tires, and put 16"wheels on the front with say p255/r40 tires? is this a sensile idea?

he just answered that..staggered is having bigger wheels in the back.

And it won't look jacked up in the back if you have the right sized tires on them. The Vette's come with 17 up front, 18 in the back, and a lot of people on here have that combo too. It would work fine for ya.

I would personally would probably put at least 45s on those 16s, maybe even 50s, 40 or 45 on the 17s... Once you do this, you're going to have a lot more fender gap and you're probably going to want to lower it.

so your saying like p275/r50 on the rear 17's and like p255/r50 on the front 16's? If i don't want to lower my car will it still work?

Tire sizes a side for the minute, i think you might find that finding wheels that fit our cars in both 17in and 16in sizes are rather rare. 18" and 17": sure, but what you're asking... i've never seen that.

As far as sizes, unless you want your car to look "jacked up" then you'll want different tire heights for the front and back to compensate for the difference in wheel diameter. Normally, when you go from a 16" wheel to say a 17" or 18" then the tire gets proportionately smaller (in height) so that the overall diameter stays the same. This is important so that you don't have to recalibrate your speedometer, and so you don't have fender gap issues (too large a fender gap looks butt ugly, and if your tires are too close to the top of the fender you could potentially have rubbing issues). That said, a lot of people go from the stock tire size of 235/60/16 to 245/55/16 with no problems at all. 255/50/16 might be getting a bit too wide for the stock rim and i think most tire places recommend against it.

                  Re: Question on wheels

right now theyr'e 235's, if i do get new tires i'll prolly just up it to 245's or 255's even if there is a slight chance of rubbing. More importantly i'd like to find tires with white lettering, to make it look nice, are there any kinds of tires like that for our cars?

The only tires they currently make that will fit a stock wheel size with white letters are the Firestone Indy 500s, which are a high performance all-season tire. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ehawk+Indy+500

Course, you could do what i did and just paint the letters on a blackwall tire:

                        Re: Question on wheels

your most likely going to have to paint the letters fairly often in order to keep them from cracking. My dad did this on his car when he was younger and he had to paint them all the time.

I'm getting some proper tire paint from Ranger Paint, which i supposed to hold up better. So we'll see how that goes. ATM tho, hes right, the paint on my tires is pretty cracked already. Still looks good from 20 feet tho.
