Ok, so I am doing the brake upgrade. I've already asked if LS1 fronts will work with LT1 rears, the answer is yes. I know this, but here's my question:

I've heard from a few different sources that it's a bad idea to use the LS1 rear brakes on a 93-97 drum brake car if you're doing the swap. Why?

    Hopefully someone will know.

Thank you all for your knowledge.

    Re: brake upgrade

I remember hearing that there was an extra line or something that went to some part of the newer LS1 rear end that the 93-97 cars weren't equipped with, causing more work than what's worth to get it all working right. You might try a search, I know the differences has been discussed at least lightly, but I don't remember what it was that's different.

yes i do, that's what i'm going to do, but i just would like to figure out exactly why people don't swap the rear LS1 brakes...just curious.

It's more work than it's worth. LS1's employ more electronics than the LT1 rear brakes ever did. When I swapped out the drum rear end for the LT1 version, it was just R&R. Nothing more added with the year I pulled it from, it was OBD1. OBD2 adds lots of traction control, bla bla bla stuff. Fact is, LS1 brakes up front with LT1 out back with good pads will stop your car faster than you ever thought possible. Remember, your not carrying as much weight as the V8 guys.

Actually the v6 fbody weighs about 100 lbs more than the v8 ! So I guess its worth having on the v6 more than the v8.
