  • Which rear springs should I get?

    I am getting ready to replace the rear springs on my 94 Firebird because every time I have 3 or 4 people in the car it will bottom out even on small dips and bumps. As a matter of fact they are so week that when I have four people in the car if I give the car a lot of gas at once it will bottom out. It is fine as long as only 1 to 2 people are in it, but the pounding really bugs me. I am not looking for anything special just a good dependable replacement shock. I have found these at my local auto part stores and want to know your opinion.

      slp has jounce spacers that SS's/WS6's/Firehawks use with their wired tires so they don't rub. I'd imagine they'd help u with ur bottoming out problem. if ur really looking for springs though, i'd say springs with a 200-250lbs/in. spring rate. across both sides, it'd take 400-500 lbs. to drop the rear an inch.

        Something's wrong with the car. It was designed to go over small bumps with people in the back seat.

        Maybe you just need new shocks.

        If you solve the problem by doubling the strength of the rear springs, you'll wreck the handling. The car will oversteer, probably enough to be unsafe.

        Take it to a pro, see what they recommend.

          If both stock jounce bumpers are still in place it is already hitting those against the axle when it "bottoms out" so adding spacers for those will only make things worse.

          The stock 93-97 V6 springs are fairly weak at only 95#/in. You could probably pick up a used set of 93-97 V8 springs (110#) or 98+ V6/V8 springs (114#) as a cheap replacement and not compromise the balance of the rest of the suspension. Couple that with a new set of shocks for the rear and you should be good to go.

            I had to replace my rear springs too. Three or more people in the car and I felt every small divit in the road. I bought a set of rear springs from a newer SS Camaro, and I haven't had any problems since.

            I actually have two sets of front V8 springs and one set of rear springs in my shed. Everytime I saw a deal somewhere, I bought them. :spank: I've got way too many springs now!
