  • Suspension overhaul for 1994 V6? Eibach pro-kit, SLP Bilstein?

I'm going to overhaul my suspension after 174,000 mi.

I'm looking at the Eibach Prokit for springs. My dad installed that kit on his 2000SS, I liked it.
What shocks should I use with the Prokit? I hear a lot about SLP Bilstein?

I'm also looking at the Eibach anti-roll kit. What other bushing and other suspension components do I need to be aware of? Steering rack?

What do you recommend for alignment? I'm thinking about trying an AutoX, I have formula car and kart racing experience. But this is primarily my commuter. Thanks.

I didn't think any 4th gen F-bodies came with leaf springs??

bilsteins seem to work good with most suspension setups, so that would be a good bet.

Those definately are leaf springs back there.

Can I use an Eibach kit sold for a V8, or shocks, on my V6?

You're right. NO LEAFs, it has rear coils! I must of confused myself with my 3rd gen I used to own.

My car was getting the drums and rotors turned. I picked it up looked, and there are coils, I feel like an idiot!:spank:

What do you guys think about shocks and springs from a 2001 SS with 30k mi for $100?

What I'd like is an Eibach Prokit and Antiroll kit with SLP Bilsteins. But that'll cost over $900. The mechanic will probably charge a few hundred for the install. That's a lot of money to spend on a car with so many miles!

          No. Springs rates are different.

SLP Bilsteins are good. They were used by SLP with Eibach lowering springs.

Because the V8 is heavier? An aluminum LS1 can't be much heavier then the cast iron 3.4l.

I think I'll probably go with the Prokit, SLP Bilsteins and the Anti-roll Kit.

            Any other comment suggestions?

I'll ask my mechanic what he'll charge for the install, if it's unreasonable I'll find a garage and do it myself.

Get the eibach prokit and use Bilstein HDs. That is the set up that I have and I love it. I also have bigger swaybars, strut tower brace, subframes and everything. www.fquick.com/silversixx to get more info on it.

I got my Bilsteins off of ebay for $338 shipped, got the Eibach 1" lowering springs from Summit for $250, and Ive added, BMR front/rear swaybars, pan hard bar, LCAs, shock tower brace, transmission tunnel brace....it made a world of difference. The car is stiffer, and handles alot better. It now corners like a slot car.....lol

LOL No....it does handle alot better though. I cant remember who here originally said it, but perhaps I should have said that it "handles like a cat on carpet".

Bilstein HD are NOT meet to be used with lowering springs. People do it, but it is not correct. SLP valved Bilsteins are made for lowering springs.

I'd still like to know why V8 suspension components won't work on my car, springs and shocks?

At 170,000mi anything is going to be an improvement. I'd just like to replace the heavily worm suspension with something that's stiffer and handles better, and is more fun to drive, but does not cost me over $1000.

Why are you so insistant on using V8 parts? They are NOT made for our cars.

The spring ride height is different based on weight. I used V8 springs on my car and "jacked it up" in the front. They will be replaced with Eibach V6 springs.

If you are buying Eibach springs anyway, why not do it right and get the ones made for a V6?
