So I Seafoamed the car (2000 Camaro) through the brake booster line. Couldn't get the hose off, so I just pulled the "L" fitting out and then pulled the line off. I proceeded with the Seafoaming normally. While letting it soak, I put the line back on, and pushed the "L" fitting back in and started it up. I let it smoke out and do it's thing for 10 minutes or so, and then hopped in to take her on the road. I get out onto the street and realize that I have nearly no brakes at all. The pedal is very tight, and I can get it to stop slowly by pushing really hard. I'm talking a good 40-50 lbs of pressure on the pedal gets it to stop. The "L" fitting did seem to go in alot easier than it came out. Car is running great (although haven't opened her up yet, as I wouldn't be able to stop!) and not like it ran when the line was disconnected. Is this something that just happens? Is is the line leaking now?

Re: Brake problem after Seafoam
D'oh!!
Problem solved... Put the fitting on wrong! Note to others: If you take the "L" fitting off of your brake booster, make darn sure you put it back on the right way! I had mine flipped around backwards, and it only allows air to flow one direction, so vaccuum was being plugged. Small end goes into hose, larger end goes into brake booster.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2182744

quote:
I\'ll procrastinate later...

This thread is building peer pressure. Pretty soon all those that have done it will be promoting it and the rest of us that haven't will make excuses why we haven't yet. Oh wait that's already started.

Re: Brake problem after Seafoam
I sea foamed my fuel tank, and through my brake booster..
I got an excellent impovement in fuel mileage, i was getting no more than 240 miles to the tank, now I get at least 310 before i fill up :D
My car didnt smoke very much at all..
I must have had a fairly clean engine!*Matt

Re: Brake problem after Seafoam
Yeah, I poured a can into the gas tank a couple days ago. Put half into the oil, and other half into the brake booster line.
It's a scary thing, to watch your baby sputter and choke while you've got hoses pulled out and pouring crap in!! It's not too bad though. Mine didn't smoke all that much either, with 77k miles on it. After I figured out my dumb mistake, I took it out on the highway (not much smoke there either) and opened her up. You can definitely feel the difference. Much smoother acceleration.
I recommend just pulling the "L" fitting off if you're going to do this. That hose was REALLY on there tight, and I pulled the fitting out anyway just pulling on the hose. Then loosen the clip and pull it off the hose. You need about a half-inch diameter funnel (or less) to fit in the hose. I was expecting idle at 2-3k rpms like the tutorial says, but it didn't. I idled VERY rough, sputtering and gasping. The rpms go up when you pour the stuff in, so be ready for it, and pour slowly. It tries to choke out and die after it takes a gulp. Other than that, it is really very simple to do, even for me. This is really the first time I've done anything to my car.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2182744

quote:
I\'ll procrastinate later...

Re: Brake problem after Seafoam
I was scared to do seafoam at first, but just follow the steps of the walkthrough on ls1tech and you wont have any problems. mine smoked big time with 90k miles, luckly it was windy when i did it tho. I would recommend everyone with close to or over 100k to do seafoam.Check out my cardomain site!
My Car

Re: Brake problem after Seafoam
I do mine every 30-40k miles...
I also do plugs afterwards and an oil change too... My car always smokes...
you guys know you need to let it stall out and sit at one point to soak in the cumbustion chambers?
I usually but the full can through the brake booster
I can't wait till I do the mustang...

Re: Brake problem after Seafoam
I let mine soak for about 20 mins. Didn't measure very good, and probably used more than 1/3 of what was left, but it only took about 3-4 seconds of cranking to start back up.
I've still got almost a full tank with seafoam in it, and she smokes just a little bit each time it starts.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2182744

quote:
I\'ll procrastinate later...
