  • My brakes are shot....

yup.......making all kinds of weird squealing noises ....... i need something really cheap ......... so, what you guys think ........should i go to pepboys and get their stuff (i.e. prostop, wagner etc) OR
buy this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=290106374599 (front rotor + pads = 109 shipped) ..........i sure pepboys would cost almost the same ... technically i dont' need rotors changed but they are not in good shape ...........so, just curious anyone buy from this seller? ..........

rotors aren't the real big part of brakes, what really matters and what you need to spend the extra money on to get the stopping power is pads. You can get pretty much any rotors and they will work fine. My dad's friend has been a mechanic for 30 some years and he just recommends the cheapest ones from NAPA, about 22 bucks a piece. Don't skimp on the pads though, you don't want to not be able to stop when you need it most.

Durability is the most important when it comes to your pads.. but yea, you should get a good brand of pad

I got drilled/slotted rotors.. cost me 300 or 400 bucks, but it was pretty much for appearances sake..

well i got the best ceramic pepboys have to offer for $60, two front pads .........weirdest thing is that, on my way to the mechanic from pepboys, my rear started making odd noises .......... when i got there, it ended up being the rear left rotor .........so, i changed the rear left rotor + both rear pads ...........Here's my question, is it bad if i just change one rotor in the back rather than both? ....I just don't feel like spending another $65 if it's not a problem.......

Kala, i wouldnt take the chances when it comes to your brakes...

Id just replace both at the same time, im sure theres something that says if you replace one, replace them both.

it's really only $65.. may seem like alot now, but "what if" and you spend more later.

I paid $110 at Napa for new rotors and some ceramic pads...

If you rotors are newer you can turn them

I didn't mess with my front rotors because they are probably good for another 10-15k miles .but i am surprised with the braking ability of these ceramic new pads. Two   . the rear rotor they put in in the rear left is bigger than the original. but it's doing it's job good. I'll still check if it's braking properly or not this weekend. Loving the better stopping power.
