  • Steering wheel shakes when braking

When I brake at highway speeds, I can feel my steering wheel shake when braking.

Could this be because of the guide pins in the caliper? I had to do some brake pad maintenance (pads were squeeking, sprayed some NAPA anti-squeek on them). I greased all of the guide pins when putting them back on.

    Warped (excessive runout) rotors.

Remove the front discs and either replace with new, or have your old ones turned to true them up.

Don't get the rotors turned. Metal has a memory, and it will return to it's original warped state a few weeks after turning them. Buy new rotors (if not all four, definitely the fronts) and baby them for a while. My car was doing the same shaking as I slowed from highway speeds. I replaced mine with some cheaper ones from NAPA about a year ago, and they're starting to pulse/warp again. I'm not hard on them either. Just remember, you'll get what you pay for.

Bottom Line: Gotta buy new rotors.

as the previous 3 people said, its the rotors. i got mine off ws6store.com, pretty inexpensive compared to the big name brake stuff, and i have no complaints.
i think these are the ones i got.

Yeah you're rotors are gone. For the most part rotors are rotors. The cheap ones from wherever are normally just as good as the more expensive ones, which is why there generally aren't different grades of rotors other than drill/slotted which actually decrease braking performance. Just get some OEM replacements and call it good.

It's your rotors, you can get them turned or get new ones. Turning them runs about $25/rotor, where as rotors from autozone are around $40 IIRC.

Either way you MUST replace the brake pads as well (they're even cheaper) or your rotors WILL warp again. Also, observe proper break in procedure(s).

I am having the same problem recently... on my civic I used to have I let the pads go until I had scraping from them, so I had to replace pads and rotors up front. Went through tire rack and probably will again for the maro..
