Sway bar broken on my conv.

so i need a new sway bar obviously.. and i called the junk yard, and my car has the upgraded performance and handling package i guess.. i dont know if thats an upgrade or just on because it needs it being a convertable and all. i can get a coupe sway bar easy and cheap, but if the guy working at the junkyard is right, what in the hell do i do, should i just order a 31" to be on the safe side. im honeslty clueless...

call the dealer and see if the part numbers are the same, if they are hit up the junk yard, if not get a better one then factory

How did you break your sway bar, front or rear? Are you talking about and endlink? Just curious.

i don't think being a convt makes a difference on the sway bar, in either case just find one off an SS or ws6 they are better from what i understand.

and the handling package i would think is the 1le package you can just look at your spid label for that rpo code.

Is this the front or rear sway bar? Our convertible bars are the same as the coupe so don't worry about that. Also do you still have stock shocks and springs? I only ask because this dictates what size bar I recommend you replace it with.

seriously, I probalby have taken the suspension of my car above and beyond, even have hopped a few curbs and other objects in my older f-bodies and never broke a sway bar.

I have broken a few endlinks but once I went to poly/thicker metal ones, no problems.

This post tells me nothing:

(1) V6 cars DO NOT have any factory "suspension upgrade". And NO, Y87 is NOT. Is this a V6 or not?

(2) Front or rear?

(3) Is the bar or endlink broken?

(4) What year?

Front sway bar of a 2000. I called the dealer, i gave the vin and the guy told me i had a package that used a bigger sway bar. its broke right at the end of the bar, dont know how, i just bought the car a week ago. sorry bout the lack of info, im still a newb.

No V6 had an option for a bigger front sway bar. 2000 V6 only came with a 28mm, with a 15mm rear.

Do you have a V8, or the dealer is an idiot.

hey firebirdGT, i got a 97 bird y87 A4 what sizes are my sway bars? or where can i find out this info

Front is 28mm but the rear is 17mm on 93-97 v6 cars.

To the original poster, is it the horizontal bar that is broke or is the it vertical part coming off the end. That vertical part that attaches to the car is the end link.
