  • Replacement of pads

Are there any guides of replacing brake pads or rotors? I would like to do this myself, but I want a guide with pics or something so I will have some idea of what the hell I am doing.

    Thanks!

its easy, you dont need pics. just pull the wheels off, the calipers have to torx bolts on the back. loosen those..... pull the caliper off the mount (dont yank on the break lines) the pads just pop in and out, you cant really put them in wrong... they only fit one way. rotors are fun ;) get some good penetrating lube and a nice big hammer. chances are they have rusted/heat welded them selves on. hammer them off throw the new ones on ( only fit one way, put some anti-seize around the lip so they wont stick on again ) put everything back together and your good to go

Having just done all this, myself, I found the Haynes manual to be sufficient. Especially since it gives you the torque specs on all the bolts you may need/want to remove. It's pretty easy.

Haynes manual has instructions, limited pictures, and torque specs.

Like Hoss said it's pretty straight forward. The rear is a little different, but it isn't hard either.

Hmmmm, my calipers aren't attached with Torx bolts. They are held on with a metric hex bolt. I know some earlier GM vehicles have Alan head bolts, but that's a whole different game too.

guess i shouldnt have used the word torx... yes they are allen style bolts (on my 95) i use a torx socket to loosen them.. lets me get more leverage on it since the heat from the breaks like to seize them up pretty tight...... broke 3 allen wrenches on them my first change, the lady at sears thought i was crazy.... gotta love free replacements. after all that trouble i decided to try a torx socket and it worked out good. im thinking of changing the bolts over to a real torks style bolt next time i have them out, im afraid of stripping the head but havent had any trouble at all with that, im just paranoid of that happening....
