I realize that there's a possibility that this belongs in the suspension section. But it's really not a technical question about what tires I need, or size, or anything like that. Mostly, I'm just wondering if anybody has ever had any problems with them. Specifically the Falken ZE 512's. I just want a tire that's gonna grip pretty decent, and not roar on the highway, and don't want to buy some crap. So, anybody have any success or horror stories about em?
Mods, if you really feel like this needs moved, that's fine, I just figured since it's kinda random......
I had Falken Ziex's on my 97' Z24 Cavalier and I LOVED them. I'm not sure about the ZE512's, but the Ziex's handled great and looked nice too. If you want serious grip, go with BFG GForce KDW or even better KD. They are expensive though. Probably much more than the Falkens. They are also softer, so in the heat, they pick up more stones and fling em' around. I can't even spin the KD's when it's real hot out. That's how well they grip. Sometimes that's good, sometimes it's bad. (I want to be able to spin and hear that squeel). ;) KDW would be a great tire for ya.
Yeah, I'd love to get the KDW's, but in a 275/40/17, things get expensive quick. I really just need a decent tire that will handle well, and pull me around in some light/moderate snow, and last me till I get a real job. Just need em for a few months.
I have the Falken Ziex ZE512's on my car. 245/55-60 all the way around and loving it :D They grip great, expecially in the rain, and don't make alot of noise. I cruise daily at around 90MPH; no tire noise, just wind. I'd definitely recommend them. I got all mine mounted and balanced with life-time balancing for $500 out the door. They look really good (tread is very aggrssive looking), handle good, sound good, and perform great. Get them!
Thanks guys. I've found the 512s in a 275/40/17 online for 420 shipped new. I think I'm gonna bite. James, thought about the Khumos but we've got em on the 04 Grand Prix, and I really don't care for them. I'm sure it would be different, but so far they suck on the GP, and they weren't that great on my sisters Grand Am. I just don't wanna chance it on em right now. Low on funds, lol.
Lol, I'll definitely post results up. They might be a bit biased at first though cause anything will be an improvement. Dunno if anybody here has ever rode around on bald 275s for 2 months, but they're LOUD, handle like crap, and you gotta babysit the steering wheel. I'll be glad when these are gone.
That's probably the best part about Falkens, they're cheap :)
That being said, I have gone through 2 sets of ZE512s on my Fiero and love them. (The first set got mostly ate up by AutoXing my Cavalier, which had serious traction issues at 200hp).
I will be replacing the Futura Supersport GLS's (blech) the PO saw fit to put on my 'maro with a set of ZE512s as soon as I have some extra $$ for sure.
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
