your right.. the thing about grip racing is you slow down BIGTIME on a hairpin... but if you drift it properly... its faster... because in grip racing.. you have to wait for the car to clear the curve and wait till you car faces the exit... then you can go full throttle... but if you drifted it right...and let gravity help you out....you'll end up facing the the exit of the hairpin while you.re still halfway ... and all you have to do is countersteer and wait... when its the right time... you can start slamming the the accelerator right away.... clearing a curve sliding is faster than braking in front of it...... *thats my opinion though* :naughty:

just like in F1 racing... those cars are rated 250kph in a straightaway but 170kph in a corner.... now if they drifted those corners... its a different story... but F1 cars what the hell am i thinking.... :)

I remember watching a special on drifting with my roommate and they were debating this so they tested it and guess what, drifting was faster everytime. If you don't beleive me just go ask Nick Hogan

Bilstein's are VERY good. i believe our lowering springs came from H&R. very stiff in the rear.

          perfect for drifting though. IMO

I agree with this. I put a 19mm in the rear of mine w/Z-28 springs, and the rear end swings out when I want and it's not uncontrollable. I can only imagin3 what a 21 or even 23mm would do. A good rear sway and good shock will determine if your car drifts beautifully, or slides horribly.

I also agree with drifting being faster through the turns. If you break the rear free, then you counter some of the G's associated with turning and therefore can turn at a faster rate. However, keep the rear in line and you'll get alot of body roll. I'm no expert drifter, but I do have fun out on the road at times.

You guys are way off. Drifting would be faster going into a corner, but that doesn't mean anything. The point is to slow down just enough to get to the apex and then get back to maximum speed so you can carry that speed into the straight away. A professional driver will trail brake as far into the corner as possible then get back to wot as soon as possible. How many times have you seen a car loose traction in a corner and come out faster then the guy behind him that had traction?

You won't find any track records set during a drift run. With that said, drift driving does have it's place in racing. Drifting can rotate a car to make a correction after a mistake or swing around a tight sharp corner quickly. However, you won't see a professional driver smoking the tires and putting the car to full reverse lock. It doesn't make sense for anything but showing off.

yep.. they do that in professional racing.. in that way they would secure the inside to prevent the cars behind him passing.... Thats why Keiichi Tsuchiya said you dont need to go all crazy on HP in drifting... sometimes an average amount of ponies would do the trick on the exit... why less power? so that the rear tires wouldn't over spin when you dont need it to... in that manner you would recover traction right away... yep you might be somehow slow in the straightaways but most drifting course are mostly hairpins anyway...

it also depends on the track they're running on.. if the track is technical course... then its possible that drift drivers are faster and can set a record... same with the F1 cars... if the track is full of high speed straight aways.. then the drifter would always see taillights... its sort of give and take... :)

Or you can learn to control the throttle...
