  • Lowering Springs Install!! Pics Inside!!!

Just got done installing my Hotchkis lowering springs, thought I would share the install. I need to wash my car before I get any pics of what the fender gap looks like now. It seems to be about an inch of drop in the front, I haven't installed the rear springs yet because I'm waiting to buy new rear shocks as well. Still debating on installing them anyways because my system already lowers the rear about an inch or more already so I don't know if I will have clearance issues or not. I provided the link I used as well to do the install, very very helpful write-up. So enjoy!

I'm still debating on doing mine or taking it to a shop. I did the springs on an old 86 Z-24 back in the day. Would you say this install was difficult at all?

well from looking at your avatar I would say you've already lowered it, but I'm guessing you only photoshopped the fender gap? anyways I got lucky on this deal because I purchased the springs (off ebay) with the front shocks already mounted. So I did not have to worry about using spring compressors, but the write-up does a good job of telling you how to mount the springs on the shocks, and you can rent the spring compressors from autozone if you really wanted to do the install yourself. I checked around at some local shops and every one of them wanted any where from $200 - $500 to do the job. So I decided I could come out on top by just doing it myself. But as far as how easy of a job, well it took me 3 hours to install the front shocks only, but most of that time was spend fighting with rusty bolts and a T50 Torx head bolt that sits right under the brake reservoir (took almost 30 mins to get that out) but all and all pretty straight forward install.

the rear ones take like 5 mine to do lol. I loveed that :D

just jack the rear of the car up, let the rear end hang down and pop the springs out by hand haha

Congrats on the install. 3 hours doesn't sound bad at all.
actually the spring compressor is relatively safe. 2 huge clamps that have safty pins. One clamps on to one side of the spring and vice versa.

ratchet down one side and then the other till the spring is compressed enough to take the shock out, I don't see why you would do all the work to get the shock/spring assembly out and then puss out and have a shop compress the spring for you. Unless you for some reason cant rent a spring compressor from autozone or something

Let me just say black halos+black car=teh sex.

Sounds like the install wasn't too bad then. I'll definitely take this one out by myself when I decide to pick up some springs/shocks.

go for it, it's an easy DIY. the only problem I had was getting that damn nut off so I could remove the perch.

Looks like there absolutely nothing holding our springs on. Am I reading this wrong, or is it just jack it up and pull 'em out?

What did you use to tint the turn signals? I'm planning on doing mine soon, I'll probably sand mine smooth and use tinting film.

Basically, that's it. I had to disconnect the bottom of the shock for the car to drop far enough to pull them out, but there is nothing but pressure holding the rears springs in.
