  • Parking Brake Light

My parking brake light has been on for a couple of months now, and my parking brake is not up. I have tested my brake making sure it works and everything is fine, and it is all the way down yet the light is still on. The local shop won't let me pass inspection because of this and I don't want to pay big bucks to find out something dumb. Does anyone know what this may be?

    P.S. - it's a '97 Fbird...if it matters.

My guess is the switch that activates the light is stuck. I'd take the center consol off and see what you can find.

There should be a flexible metal contact at the base of the parking brake handle under the console. You should be able to adjust it or bend it I believe.

They will know, the light has to come on when the parking brake is applied and when the key is turned on before the car is started.

Most cars use the same brake dash light for the parking brake and the hydraulic system warning light. Could be something there as well.
