  • Lower Control Arm bushings

My are pretty deteriorated is a 2001 camaro. So will have to replace them. How difficult a job is this to do? Did not feel right other day so took it down to local shop to have it checked out. Valve cover is leaking some oil is what he said caused the damage. And front struts need replaced. I did struts on a previous car I know it is a pain but I can do that. Never replaced bushing on control arms before though. What is entailed on replaceing them? Should I go with Poly bushings?

I've heard it's possible to change a bushing, but most guys just get the part out and have a shop take the old one out and press the new one in. You'll need a spring compresser for the front shocks but you probably know that.
As far as what kind of bushings, I know poly is not the best choice for rear lcas, but front I couldn't say. Moog is the recommended bushing for the rears, that may apply to the front, but I'll let someone who knows a little more on the subject chime in.

When you remove the lower a arm, you can probably drill out the rubber bushing. You might be able to push in the new bushings using a bench vice otherwise take it to a shop and have them press in the new bushings. Poly bushing definitely firm up the ride quite a bit. I have poly all the way around on my 69. On my 96RS the sway bars and endlinks, hotchkiss rear lca and panhard bar all have poly. Not sure why everyone says there not good on the rear lca's.

Poly on PHR, sway bars and endlinks - OK

Poly on rear LCA - aftermarket tubular, NO - factory LCA, OK

Rear LCA MUST be able to twist.

                Re: Lower Control Arm bushings

I already replaced all 8 front bushings by myself, just dissasembled all frt suspension and pop out the old bushings with chisel and hammer, to put the new bushings you will need a bench press and large sockets to push the bushings in the arms is pretty easy to do if you have all the tools hardware, if you don't, it's better to take your car to a shop, all the work led to me about 3 days because all the front was rusty and i decided to paint all around when it was dissasembled but not a big deal
