  • ABS inop and E-brake light

Yipee. So I've searched around some and I didn't find a very similar question so here goes. I was trying to get up my driveway after work which was by then covered in snow yay! I can never get up the beginning of the drive so I just spun the tires till I started losing forward momentum. Pulled the E-brake just for that added reassurance that I won't lose those 2 inches from just setting it in park while waiting for my brothers assistance in pushing. I turned the car off, waited 5 minutes for him to get there, turned it on, released the hand brake but the dash light stayed on.. as did the ABS inop light. Ok now I'm worried. So I turned the car off and back on. The hand brake light is now off but the ABS inop light remains. We finally got the car to level ground after a lot of tire spinning but now this damn light is on and I haven't driven it since because the roads are ****ty as hell.

So. Short of any further information about my situation is there anything other than what I've read in past threads that you guys could tell me for my specific situation? Also.. sadly.. my third brake light works just fine. I have a feeling my problem is gonna end up in my ABS ring which is in the differential cover? That is a part of the car I really must learn about.. Gears and what not. Ugh. Ok this is long enough.

Ok, well I totally wasted my time typing all of that. I went and drove it 5 ft in my driveway and it went out. Hah. And I was all preparing for the worst. :) Except now my handbrake light will not come on.. But I think I can live with that.

Happens to me all the time in the winter, if I spin my tires for a few seconds in snow I'll get ABS inop everytime. Never figured out why, always assumed it was something with the traction control system, if there's one on this bloody thing. Never figured out if that was there either.

I thought it was just odd because ever since I've had this car I've lived in Ohio and.. yeah winters here are rediculous sometimes.. but like I was saying, in the 5 or 6 years that I've had this car it's never done that before. Worried me.

The problem is when the car detects that the wheels are spinning for an long period of time, it thinks there is something going on with the ABS sensors(on on each front wheel, one on rear diff) and it shuts the ABS system down. When it does this, the abs inop and brake light works.

Trust me, I'd move to florida in a heartbeat if I could. I don't even have a garage to work on my cars in the winter here :(
